Style by City : Austin

Monday, May 18, 2015

1 / 2 / 3 (similar) / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7

While most of your weekends are just ending, in a way, mine is just starting. A couple of my friends from college are taking a cross country road trip and I am heading up to Austin to meet them in our capital city for their first time in Texas. It's always interesting to me how each Texas city has it's own personal style. When it comes to Austin, I always think of it as the funky boho younger sister of the Texas bunch. Cowboy boots, turquoise and suede are what comes to mind for this city which is sort of a shift away from my usual style which makes quick trips to Austin so fun.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I'm looking forward to good conversation, gorgeous hills, and great live music.

Winter Scarves

/ 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 /

I never really understood the importance of a good scarf until I went to school in upstate New York. While jackets and heavy sweaters are definitely an important factor to winter dressing, scarves are surely the needed finishing touch. Aside from winter and a heavy chunky grey scarf that I wear almost daily in the winter months at Syracuse, I was never one to have a collection of scarves. I met up with a couple of friends from high school yesterday who were both wearing scarves (one, a lilac-y purple, and the other a darker floral). It got me thinking that when we live in colder climates with so many pieces that are worn daily (heavy boots, down coat, scarves, mittens...) why not have a few different colors of the smaller things like the mittens and scarves to keep the long season a little brighter and not as drab as typical blacks and grays--as much as we love those.  In the image above, I have gathered five varying styles that I would love to tuck underneath my jacket to keep warm while not jeopardizing in the style department, as well. Fun fact, the Zara piece (4) has chain running through it!

Do you use scarves in the winter? What's your go-to style?

Tuesday Shoesday

{here are a few similar styles}
Yes, I know that it is colder and there has been snow in parts of the East Coast in the past few days, but these CROON loafers definitely an amazing shoe for any self-acclaimed "glitter fiend." While some may prefer for their loafers, or any shoe in general, to be in neutral colors to best work with all of their outfits, others may enjoy the opposite idea of a perfect contrast. These loafers would be just that. With their bright salmon-y pink and turquoise tassels and heel tab, as well as the abundance of glitter on the body of the shoe, these are an incredible pair of statement-making shoes that are guaranteed to make any ensemble complete.

Where to Wear What

{Forever 21 leotard, Zara skirt, Topshop necklace, Michael Kors watch, and Sam Edelman heels}

The concept of dress codes is quite an interesting one. There are the ones that we feel we must obey by such as "Black Tie" and ones that are more obscure and open-ended like "Dressy Casual" or "Festive." Of course, there are also always those who show up in whatever they please because they feel like it. For my dad's birthday this weekend, we had a late afternoon lunch. While dinner plans seem to be of the dressier nature, I took this late afternoon party to mean "Dressy Casual", or at least my version of it. By dressing up a simple black leotard with a turquoise lace skirt, neon enameled necklace, and throwing on a pair of heels, this was a great combination to feel put together, without feeling out of place.

{The heel on these is so perfectly unexpected. Lovely, right?}

Happy Birthday, dad
