Orange

I ordered this dress hoping to wear it for my college graduation this past May thinking it would be fun to wear orange to rep Syracuse's color. Funny part of the story, the dress didn't make it in time for graduation but literally as my mom and I were heading to the airport I got a call that my package had been delivered to my house so we booked it back into town to pick it up. 

Story aside, I love this dress for so many reasons. We all know about my obsession love for sleeves and these are different than any of the others in my collection. These lace trimmed bell sleeves are so delicate, but the intense orange color really makes them pop. At first I was a little worried that it was too bright, but after putting it on it felt perfectly fitting and fun for summer. 

What are you all up to this weekend? My little sister comes back from Italy tonight, so we are excited to welcome her back with Tex-Mex and hugs.

White Hot II

As much as I love an all white look, I love using white as a starting point for colors, too. Here, I mixed a favorite bright white sweater (love the sleeves!) with a cream colored old lace skirt from H&M. Working within a similar color palette is something that I like to play around with often, but not so much when it comes to neutrals. I love how this look started out simple and focused on the light colors and more on the shapes of the skirt and the sweaters' sleeves, and soon turned into a sort of Lula-esque floral and pink moment. That's probably one of the main ideas that I love about getting dressed-- you can have an idea in mind of who you want to be that day or of how you want to dress, and quickly, the pieces sort of combine themselves into your end point where you may have never even thought you'd end up. Does that ever happen to any of you?

Fall Favorites

Fall is definitely my favorite season, and nothing makes me happier after a brutal summer than heading to work with a perfect crisp breeze in the air. During colder months, and even at the beginning of fall, I try my best to wear my skirts and dresses with my legs bare for as long as possible. With this challenge, easy jackets are for sure my go-to pieces. When it comes to favorites, jackets in a varsity or army/utility style are what I find myself wearing with absolutely everything. With my favorite varsity jacket in a dark navy and black combination (faux leather sleeves, of course!) and my utility jacket in its classic army green, these are staples that are must haves for that crisp pre-fall air that will certainly carry you much into fall.

Updated Classic

When I found out that we were going to be assigned a jacket as our final project of senior year in my pattern-making class, I knew almost automatically that I wanted to do an updated version of a classic varsity jacket. I lettered in Varsity Cheer in high school, and though I rarely wore my high school jacket, it was a much less stylized and much more oversized, I loved the combination of plush leather sleeves and the felt body. When it came to designing my own, I wanted the colors to be light neutrals, but to be anything from boring. With the quilted sleeves, floral body, and bold zipper, it came out exactly how I imagined it: crisp, stylish, and able to make whatever it was thrown on top of instantly pulled together. 

I would love to hear your comments/thoughts about how you think that it turned out. They would mean a lot to me.

Dress Up

As much as a sucker I am for a really feminine fit-and-flare, waist-accented silhouette for a dress, there is a strong place in my heart for a great boxy dress. This week's dress is one that fills many classifications of things that go into making a favorite style boxy dress to me. I love how while the sleeves are short, they are longer than usual, and how as a whole, the dress can appear almost as if it is a top and skirt as separates. Although my university's colors are orange and blue, surprisingly, that is not the reason that the colors work well for me. The combination of a dark navy and almost rusty/metallic orange, are great colors for fall and winter and can work as a great base for coats or tights and the metallic quality would look great with one of my favorite additions--gold jewelry.

Lovely Lattice

When it comes to basic pieces, changes in the little details, like adding lattice-style cutouts to the sleeves on this Isaac Mizrahi top, are what make them special.
