Hello, everyone! After another summer in NYC I am back home for a couple of weeks and ready to get back to some regular posting for a bit. Yesterday we celebrated my dad's birthday, and there is something about being back in Texas that always makes me dress much brighter and want to combine so many patterns, and I think that concept clearly shows in this look. Birthdays are meant to be happy and in perusing my closet through the pieces I haven't seen in a while, I came across this Tracy Feith skirt that was part of a Target collaboration from 2009 (!). I love the vintage surfer/beach vibe that the neon flowers give off, and you simply can't go wrong with this shape of skirt. With the colors in the pattern as bright as they are, the white blouse and shoes keep everything else relatively simple, but give off a brightness of their own. And, obviously, the amazing Rebecca Minkoff clutch pulls everything together. As it was a birthday gift last year, it seemed fitting to pull it out to celebrate someone else's birthday, as well!

Off the Shoulder

One of my favorite trends that's been popping up everywhere is the off-the-shoulder trend. I've already picked up a few other styles featuring this look, but this Forever 21 dress is definitely my favorite. The combination of blue and indigo flowers remind me of Texas bluebonnets, and the ruffled off-the-shoulder sections feel so fluttery and romantic when paired with seafoam pointed-toe pumps and swept back hair.

White Hot II

As much as I love an all white look, I love using white as a starting point for colors, too. Here, I mixed a favorite bright white sweater (love the sleeves!) with a cream colored old lace skirt from H&M. Working within a similar color palette is something that I like to play around with often, but not so much when it comes to neutrals. I love how this look started out simple and focused on the light colors and more on the shapes of the skirt and the sweaters' sleeves, and soon turned into a sort of Lula-esque floral and pink moment. That's probably one of the main ideas that I love about getting dressed-- you can have an idea in mind of who you want to be that day or of how you want to dress, and quickly, the pieces sort of combine themselves into your end point where you may have never even thought you'd end up. Does that ever happen to any of you?

Tuesday Shoesday

One of my favorite places to visit while on vacation are the botanical gardens. It's always so quite and peaceful and the many varieties of plants and flowers create such a beautiful setting for fragrant smells and bright colors. These Kate Spade heels remind me of a perfect day strolling through the grounds. With florals being so effortlessly feminine, I like how these are slightly more abstract and create a bit more of a blurred image- easily allowing you to pair them with much more than just a dainty dress.

Dress Up

{Dress of the Week}

I am a huge fan of anything and everything floral. I love the way that they can be applied to any type or style of garment and manage to have a fresh and feminine feel to them. Now that spring and summer seasons have passed, I have been looking into pieces that manage to still incorporate that fresh and floral look into more cooler month options. This dress from Asos is one that I feel can work well for nearly any seasons depending on how you style it. With it's slightly longer length and sleeves and darker background and petals--instead of pastels-- this is a style that I will be on the look for in the months to come. And, with little details like the buttons around the waist, it has just as much charm as is pretty.

Flower Power

{Forever 21 dress, Steve Madden shoes, Michael Kors watch}

When I saw this dress at Forever 21 a few months ago, I knew it would be perfect for the summer. With it's bold floral pattern, perfect cut, and interesting crochet panel along the mid-section, it was definitely something that was not seen in my closet before. A great piece to dress up with heels--as seen here-- or a pair of leather sandals for running around, it's a fun dress that is both easy and fun to wear.
