Pastels are playing a huge role in coats for the upcoming fall and winter seasons. What used to be reserved for darker blacks, grey, and navy, have been replaced by more subdued cotton candy colors. With pastels making a statement in a season other than traditional Spring, I came across this room above, that keeps the pastels and sweet colors slightly toned down with a graphic black and white rug, funky light fixtures, and a bit of nature with a pop of kelly green plants. Keeping the furniture simple both in shape and style is key in a room like this one. With the prints and patterns displayed on the fabrics, the basic furniture helps to balance it out, and the robins-egg blue table picks up on colors in the blankets.

Dress Up

Even though this Prada dress is like so three seasons ago (really, though...it's Spring 2012), I'm still in love with it. The impersonators have just started coming out with their pieces modeled after this collection, and I can't help but appreciate the originals. Nodding to the 50's and combining the two main loves in the life of a man: women and cars, this dress--and collection-- have just the right amount of whimsy but still being classic in the cuts of the garments and their styling. Although I am not quite a connoisseur or lover of automobiles, this dress is one that I would definitely still love to take for a test drive. And, with spring coming up in a few months, I can't wait to re-incorporate pastels and fun prints back into my wardrobe.

Dress Up

Although I do not know where the components of this outfit are from, I figured that this was the perfect lesson in how to incorporate pastels and light-weight fabrics into fall and winter wardrobes. While pastels are known for being associated with spring time, by combining a longer length dress with a tailored camel colored coat and brown leather bag, this light pistachio-mint color can work for cooler months during the winter just as it can for the cooler months of the spring.

While mint green is one of my favorite colors, I would never think of using it in an interior space such as the one in the photo above. When I think of living rooms and fireplaces, I often don't think of pastel and cooler colors. However, with the high ceilings, intricate molding, abundance of knick knacks seen in the fireplace, pillows on the couch, and plates and bowls spread throughout, the mint is just as inviting and comfortable as any other color would be. And, it has a sense of uniqueness and freshness that would not often be found.

Necklace DIY

Like most accessory fanatics, I have definitely purchased my fair share of neon and bright colored cocktail jewelry. Remembering this post from last year, I turned my slow day into one of a craft that to much surprise, turned out just as how I had hoped. I wanted to use a combination of pastels and brights to fit in with some of my favorite styles right now. Overall, it was easy, fun to do, and was a great way to add an accessory to my wardrobe.

So, remember this post? Well, after seeing how perfectly this sea foam skirt matched this incredibly soft Zara t-shirt, I figured I should give the colored monochrome look a try. With one of the trends from this summer being to mix the popularity of spring pastels with summers love of brights, I added my favorite neon belt to an otherwise pastel look, to create my first attempt at a colored monochrome style.

Vintage Confection

I fell in love with this vintage skirt about a month or so ago when I saw it at Shareen Vintage's New York location. I am always drawn to vintage prom dresses and skirts, especially those in palettes that resemble that of pastel confections and with lovely full skirts. I knew that I wanted to wear this skirt for a special occasion, as it feels special when worn, and my last day in New York this summer definitely felt like one of those occasions. 

A Spring in my Step

While winter has basically just begun here in Syracuse, the stores have begun to bring in their spring collections. An abundance of pastels, punchy bright colors, and thin fabrics have started to line the shelves, and I cannot help but feel a bit pushy wishing spring were already here so that I can indulge in them. Though currently I have to stick with chunky knits, puffer coats, and snow boots, here are some of my favorite pieces for spring that I am to be dreaming of until the snow melts far away from campus and the sun shines for the majority of the day.
